6.4 Sabbath. The Silence After the Silence.

Le Pigeonnier, Les Quatre Vents, Quebec.

Our meditation this week is on Communion, the practice of communing with and reflecting on the Divine. All of these topics circle and spiral together. Communion is grounded in sabbath rest, a stopping to listen to the silence. (Next week, in our final week, we will silently contemplate Sabbath Rest as a counterpoint to our starting place, Work.)
Entering into rest from our works is how we experience communion. We are able to live in this rest continually.

The sabbath laws were the Schoolmaster that walked us into a greater truth about sabbatical and communion. Festivals, new moons, and sabbath days are only a “shadow of what is to come.” So, what might seem like legalistic rigid practices, in actuality, demonstrate a generous diversity in accepting and respecting many varied practices. Perhaps our praxis, our habitual ritual practice, is to cease from our practices and experience the place of rest prepared for us in the presence of the One.
