The Praxis Project of the Nomad Collective. 49 Days Out of the Wilderness.

The Praxis Project of the Nomad Collective[1]

49 Days Out of the Wilderness.

The Praxis Project is a 7-week personal, self-reflective change journey. It takes place over 49 days. It happens online and in the milieu of the participant’s daily life. Our hope is to achieve personal growth by working on concepts that arise from one’s everyday life rather than adding increased scheduling demands. Praxis is the marriage of beliefs and practices in daily life.

Dates:

The project is scheduled to run from May 3rd to June 21st, the first day of summer. There are three optional online 59-minute meets. These include sessions on Orientation, Disorientation, and a New Orientation.

The Project Goal:

The primary goal of the project is for the participant to experience personal growth and success in self-discovery in areas of their life that they identify. The outcome or vision emerges in the participants' reflection on the goals that they set. There is an offer for the participants to reflect on and articulate their personal values. At the same time, the hope is that they will challenge and re-examine their values through a process of Orientation, Disorientation, and a New Orientation.

The Framework and Experience:

A participant may choose to access the experience fully, or very little at all. An online-accessible framework is created that allows a weekly topic for 7 weeks, followed by a daily post related to each topic. The final week is a sabbatical week without daily posts.

The participant can access the process at any point, anywhere, at the level they are willing and able to participate. The experience of the participant includes:

1) watching three short videos (less than 5 minutes) which define the process of orientation, disorientation, and new orientation. This includes beginning to question your values, conceiving a goal, and documenting your process in the manner you typically use. (Pen, paper, journal, phone app, sticky note, mental note, rant, etc.)

2) accessing the daily post to assist you in thinking about the active steps you are taking. Repeat each day, or as you are able. At day 7, evaluate your thoughts and progress.

3) considering the three optional online sessions on Orientation, Disorientation, and New Orientation.

The seven stations, with one each featured weekly, are:

Work (Vocaré)

Household (Oikos)

Community (Communitas)

Body (Soma)

Body Collective (Ecclesia)

Communion (Communio)

Rest (Sabbatic)

The process of participation moves from vision, goals, and steps, to outcomes, and a new orientation.

[1] The foundation for the Praxis Project is the Nomad Collective which began with identifying the participant’s story of personal growth, their north star, dreams, and vision. The focus on spiritual nomads invokes the idea of the Collective, a periodic gathering for rest and encouragement.
